Duties & Responsibilities
- Licensing / Certificates / Permits
- The town clerk prepares and files many types of licenses, including marriage, death, birth, dog, hunting, and fishing.
- Town Recording Management Officer / Town Records Management Officer
- The town clerk attends all meetings of the town board and keeps a complete and accurate record of the proceedings of each meeting.
- The Town Clerk’s office is designated by state law as the Records Management Officer and maintains custody of all records, ordinances, Local Laws, books and papers.

Town Clerk Services
Marriage Licenses
To obtain a marriage license, both partners need to appear in the Town Clerk's Office in person.
Also required are the following:
- A valid photo ID- such as a driver's license or passport
- An original or certified copy of each partners' birth certificates (must have a raised seal)
- Any and all divorce decrees (if applicable)
- Most recent must be the original or certified copy of the divorce decree.
- Original or certified copy of Death Certificate of former spouse/s (if applicable)
- $40 payable by cash or check
The solemnization period of 60 days begins 24 hours after issuance of the marriage license.
Marriage License Packets can be filled out before coming in.
Appointments are encouraged and can be made Monday thru Friday 9:30 am- 3:30 pm. Call 845-758-4606

To obtain a certified copy of a marriage certificate, please submit the following to the Town Clerk's Office either in person, or by mail.
- Application for a Copy of Marriage Record
- $10 cash or check for each copy needed
- A valid photo ID
Please note that a copy of a marriage certificate can only be issued to the following individuals:
- Spouses (photo ID required)
- Persons with a documented judicial or other proper purpose
- Persons with a New York State Court Order
How to Apply for a one-day marriage officiant license:
- The application must be filled out and returned to the Town Clerk’s office from where the couple whose marriage the applicant will be solemnizing receive their marriage license.
- Also required is a $25.00 fee, payable by cash or check only, and a copy of a state issued photo ID.
- Once the one-day marriage officiant license is granted, the officiant may solemnize the couple’s marriage anywhere in New York State during the period of time the couple’s marriage license is in effect.
- In accordance with Domestic Relations Law §11-d, this license is valid ONLY for the parties to be married and shall expire after the marriage ceremony or the expiration of the marriage license, whichever occurs first.
- MARRIAGE LICENSE MAY BE RETURNED IF FILLED OUT INCORRECTLY

To Obtain a Copy of a Death Record please submit the following to the Town Clerk's office either in person, or by mail.
- Application for a Copy of a Death Record
- $10 cash or check for each copy needed
- A valid photo ID
Please note that copies of death certificates can only be issued to certain parties of the deceased. A notarized signature may be required.

Birth Certificates are issued from the town in which the birth occurred. Contact the Town Clerk's Office to obtain a certified copy of a birth certificate or for more information. 845-758-4606
Notary Services
The Town Clerk's office offers free Notary Public Services during our normal operating hours.
Appointments are not needed, but are encouraged for Notaries which will require more time.
Please bring the document in its entirety along with a valid photo ID.
Hunting & Fishing Licenses
Fees vary according to the type of license.
A hunting certificate is needed to purchase a hunting license.
Information is available at the Town Clerk's Office or at the Department of Environmental Conservation
Dog Licenses
The Town of Red Hook, requires dog owners to license all dogs older than 4 months. Service dogs must be licensed and are exempt from the fee with proof of registration.
All dogs must be licensed to use the dog parks.
Apply for a new Dog License in person. Residents will need the following:
- Dog License Application
- An up-to-date Rabies Vaccination Certificate
- License fee (cash or check only)
- Proof of neutering or spaying (if applicable)
Renewal forms are sent by mail near the expiry date of the license and can be renewed for up to three years.

Handicap Parking Placards
Handicap Parking Placards can only be obtained at the Town Clerk’s office if you are a resident of Red Hook. No fee is required
Parking Permit Applications need to be completed by both the resident and a medical professional. Only one handicap placard can be issued per person. A driver's license or state issued non-driver ID is required.
No appointment is necessary.
Recycling Permits
The Recycling Center and Transfer Station is available to Red Hook residents only. Permits have been waived at this time.
The Recycling Center is open Wednesdays and Saturdays 7:30 am - 1 p.m.
The Goods Exchange is open on Wednesdays 7:30 am- 1 pm only. Donations are accepted Wednesdays & Saturdays.

The Town Clerk/ Receiver of Taxes collects Town and County Taxes for the Town of Red Hook, including the Village of Red Hook and the Village of Tivoli.
