FIFTEEN YEARS AND COUNTING
Have you seen the Tree City signs along the road or perhaps the Tree City flag at the town building? Tree City USA is a national recognition program, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the US Forest Service and National Association of State Forests. To qualify, municipalities of any size must meet the four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day.
For the fifteenth consecutive year, the Town of Red Hook has been named a Tree City USA.
In spite of the limitations imposed by the pandemic, the Town of Red Hook Tree Preservation Commission was able to satisfy the requirements. We planted trees, pruned and maintained trees and observed Arbor Day with a modified, socially distanced celebration. Plans for 2021 are in the works, including a return of our school program at Mill Road School.
