Utility reports energy supply pricing will increase even further in March; expects pain to last throughout the year.
Town residents who chose to remain in the Hudson Valley Community Power Program or joined the Community Solar project are protected against these increases.
Red Hook Town residents can join at any time:
Yesterday, regional utility Central Hudson Gas & Electric issued another press release with regard to energy supply pricing.
CHGE reports that their March, 2022 electric supply rate is increasing another 24%; more than 3 times their historic average and nearly quadruple the rate of the Town’s Community Choice Aggregation program (.06565 kw). Residents who did not elect to remain in the CCA, and who did not subscribe to the Community Solar project, will see significant increases in their utility bills.
When the Town Board back in 2019 contemplated joining the Hudson Valley Community Power CCA - (a program where municipalities join together to make bulk purchases for clean energy supply), we focused on 2 potential benefits - 100% clean energy sources and fixed rate pricing. If you elected to remain in the program, your energy supply rate will continue to be .06565 through June, 2024.
The utility rate has been higher for each of the 9 months since we renewed our 3 year contract with Columbia Utilities.
